Kotsay is a free man as of right now. After acquiring Adam LaRoche, Terry Francona had to make a space for him on the roster, and the person he decided to get rid of? Mark Kotsay, 1B and outfielder.
Terry Francona talking about his move:
"It wasn't a fun decision or a fun message," Francona said. "This is a guy that came in last year and immediately became a leader in our clubhouse. He's as professional as they get. You learn quickly to admire people like that, and that will certainly never change." (courtesy of redsox.com)
I think Terry made the right move. It was probably Kotsay or Baldelli, right? Kotsay had some injuries early this season, including a calf problem, and Rocco hasn't. So maybe that was the ultimate decision.
So, Kotsay is now designated for assignment. I really hope someone picks him up. He wasn't too shabby.
